Your parent needs more help than you can give from your office, or from another city. You start searching and find dozens of homes, all promising the same things. Where do you begin?
You are not alone. India is ageing fast. The UNFPA India Ageing Report 2023 projects that people aged 60 and above will make up over 20% of India’s population by 2050. As a result, families in Delhi NCR now look for senior citizen retirement homes that give parents safety, daily care and a real social life.
So this guide shows you the main options across Delhi NCR, how they differ, and what to check before you decide.
What is a retirement home in Delhi NCR?
A retirement home is a place where older adults live with daily support, meals, safety and social activities. However, the level of care varies a lot. Some homes suit active seniors who want a community. Others, in contrast, give hands on help with bathing, medicines and mobility every day.
First, know which type of support your parent needs before you compare names. This table shows four common senior care options.
| Option | Who it suits | Daily help | Nursing support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Independent living | Active seniors who manage on their own | Meals, housekeeping, security | Usually on call, so ask each home |
| Assisted living | Seniors who need help with bathing, dressing, medicines or walking | Personal care every day | Varies by home; confirm whether a nurse is present overnight |
| Care home | Seniors with dementia, stroke, bed rest or recovery needs | Full personal care | Varies by home; ask about nurse cover on every shift |
| Care at home | Seniors who want to stay in their own house | Depends on the attendant you hire | Visiting nurse, if arranged |
Still unsure? Read our guide on independent living vs assisted living.

How do you choose the right retirement home in Delhi NCR?
Judge every home on six things: care and medicines, living space, safety, daily life, food and cost. After all, a beautiful lobby means little without a strong team behind it.
1. Care and medicines
Ask who gives medicines and who checks your parent’s health each day. Then find out how many nurses and caretakers work at night. Finally, check the distance to the nearest large hospital.
- Staffing: ask whether a nurse is present overnight or only on call.
- Health monitoring: checks as per your parent’s care plan, with records you can see.
- Hospital access: also, a clear plan for emergencies and the nearest hospital.
- Special care: trained staff for dementia, stroke recovery or post operative needs.
- Physiotherapy: in addition, regular sessions for mobility and strength.
2. Living space
First, choose a room that fits your parent’s mobility and privacy needs.
- Private or shared rooms: shared rooms cost less and give daily company.
- Safe design: next, look for grab bars, non slip floors, ramps and lifts.
- Personal touches: ask if your parent can bring photos or a favourite chair.
3. Safety and security
- CCTV: across common areas, with privacy respected in rooms.
- Controlled entry: also, visitors sign in at the gate.
- Fire safety: alarms, extinguishers and a clear exit plan.
- Trained staff: finally, caretakers who know what to do after a fall.
4. Daily life and activities
A good home keeps residents busy and connected. For example, look at the activity board. Better still, sit in on one.
- Social time: cards, carrom, music and festival celebrations.
- Movement: yoga, light exercise and evening walks.
- Faith: space for prayer and religious rituals.
See what a normal day looks like at Life at Gracias Living.
5. Food and nutrition
- Diet plans: meals for diabetes, low salt or high protein needs.
- Clean kitchen: also, ask to see it.
- Help at meals: staff who feed residents who cannot eat on their own.
- Water and snacks: finally, regular drinks through the day.
6. Cost and contracts
Ask for every charge in writing before you sign. Then check what the monthly fee covers and what costs extra.
- Deposit: how much, and when you get it back.
- Monthly fee: room, meals, nursing and laundry included or not.
- Extras: next, check doctor visits, medicines, diapers, physiotherapy, ambulance.
- Contract terms: notice period and renewal rules.
What does a retirement home in Delhi NCR cost?
Cost depends on the type of home, the room and the level of care your parent needs. For example, dementia care and high dependency care cost more because they need more staff. Some communities ask for a large deposit or entry amount, while others charge a monthly fee. So always ask each home for a current written quotation.
| Item | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Security deposit, long stay | ₹3.75 lakh | Refundable |
| Security deposit, short stay up to 3 weeks | None | Short stays have separate pricing. For stays beyond three weeks, we agree the terms with the family based on the resident’s condition. |
| Petty cash | ₹25,000 | Refundable; unused balance returned after expenses are settled |
| Monthly fee | Depends on room and care level | See our pricing page for current fees and what they include |

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a retirement home and an old age home?
Both give older adults a place to live with support. People often use “retirement home” for communities of active seniors, and “old age home” for homes with more daily care. So in practice, check the level of care each home gives, not the name.
How much does a retirement home in Delhi NCR cost?
It depends on the room, the city and the level of care. For example, homes that give daily nursing and dementia care charge more than communities for independent seniors. Ask every home for a written quotation that lists the monthly fee, deposit and all extras.
Is buying a retirement apartment the same as paying for assisted living?
No. When you buy a senior apartment, you own property and usually pay separate maintenance and service charges. In contrast, assisted living works on a deposit and monthly fee for room, meals and care. Many homes in Delhi NCR, including Gracias Living, follow the second model.
Can couples live together in a retirement home?
Many homes offer double rooms for couples. At Gracias Living, couples can share a room. Also, ask any home how it plans care when one partner needs more help than the other.
When can family visit at Gracias Living?
Family can visit any time after informing us in the WhatsApp group. Other visitors, however, are welcome from 11 am to 4 pm.
Which hospitals are near Gracias Living?

Can my parent move in straight from hospital?
Yes, at Gracias Living, subject to a care assessment and room availability. For this, we need the hospital’s clinical assessment and discharge summary.
Can we arrange admission while living abroad?
Yes. You can fill the admission form online, pay fees online and email a scan of the signed agreement. After that, we can send an ambulance to bring your parent in.
Will my parent keep their own doctor?
Yes. Residents keep their own treating doctors through video consults and follow ups. However, in an emergency, we take residents to the nearest hospital.
How will we get updates about our parent?
Every family gets a WhatsApp group with our nurses and customer experience team. At least one photo or video of your parent goes into the group every day. In addition, nurses share medical updates, and we share vitals records with you on a shared drive.
What should my parent bring?
Clothes, toiletries and their own medicines, along with prescriptions, medical records, an ID proof and any aids their doctor has prescribed. Besides, they are welcome to bring photos, a favourite chair or other personal things to make the room their own.
