Who needs residential stroke rehabilitation?
A senior who is medically stable after a stroke but not yet safe at home. That is why most families come to us straight from hospital discharge.

Your parent’s treating doctor
Your parent continues with the same doctor from the hospital, through visits or video consults. Our team then follows that doctor’s guidance on medicines and care.

Our Head of Medical Services, with over 38 years of clinical experience. She supervises overall care and also guides our nurses and caretakers.
Physiotherapist
Works on balance, strength, walking and safe transfers. Also, our physiotherapist is part of the team at the centre, not an outside visitor.
Occupational therapist
Helps your parent relearn daily tasks like dressing, grooming and eating. As a result, they can do more on their own.
Speech therapist
Works on speech, communication and safe swallowing when the stroke has affected them.
Nurses and caretakers
Nurses give medicines on time and watch for changes. Caretakers also help with bathing, dressing and meals. In addition, a night nurse and night caretaker do rounds through the night.

Is Gracias Living a hospital?
No. Gracias Living is a stroke rehabilitation and care centre. The hospital treats the stroke. We then help your parent recover after discharge.

Every family gets its own WhatsApp group with our nurses and customer experience team. Nurses share medical updates. In addition, the customer experience team shares how your parent’s day went. Above all, Dr. Chitra Anand guides the care team behind every update.

What is included in stroke rehabilitation at Gracias Living?
Physiotherapy from our in house physiotherapist, occupational and speech therapy from visiting therapists, 24 hour nursing, help with daily activities, meals and regular family updates. Dr. Chitra Anand also supervises overall care.
Can my parent come straight from hospital?
Yes. We can admit your parent on the day of discharge. For this, we need the hospital’s discharge summary and clinical assessment. We then arrange any medical equipment within four hours.
Will my parent keep their own doctor?
Yes. Your parent continues with their treating doctor through visits or video consults. Our team follows that doctor’s guidance. Doctors from Paras Hospital, Max Healthcare, Narayana Hospital, Medanta and Fortis support our residents.
How many physiotherapy sessions does my parent get?
Usually six physiotherapy sessions a week with our in house physiotherapist. For some weeks it may be five, depending on what your parent needs. Caretakers also help your parent practise between sessions.
Do you accept patients who are bedridden, on a catheter or on a Ryle’s tube?
Yes. We accept patients who are fully bedridden, on a catheter or on a Ryle’s tube (feeding tube). Our nurses and caretakers manage their care 24 hours.
What happens in a medical emergency?
We take your parent to the nearest hospital and keep your family informed.
Is care available at night?
Yes. Nurses and caretakers are on duty 24 hours. In addition, a night nurse and night caretaker do rounds through the night. Some residents also have a personal caretaker who sleeps in their room.
How long can my parent stay?
As long as recovery needs. Some families choose a short stay of a few weeks after discharge. Others, however, choose a long stay. Agreements renew every 11 months, and there is no maximum stay.
How much does stroke rehabilitation cost?
Cost depends on the room and the care your parent needs. Short stays of up to three weeks need no security deposit, only Rs 25,000 refundable petty cash. However, long stays carry a refundable security deposit of Rs 3.75 lakh. See our pricing page or the stroke rehabilitation cost guide.
What should we bring?
Only clothes, toiletries and your parent’s own medicines. We arrange the rest.
Can we arrange admission from abroad?
Yes. Fill the admission form online, pay the fees online and email a scan of the signed agreement. Then we can send an ambulance to bring your parent to us.
Will my parent only do therapy all day?
No. Residents also play cards, carrom and other indoor games, and go for evening walks in the park when they are able.
What signs show my parent is making progress?
Better balance, more independence in daily tasks, clearer speech and more confidence while moving. The care team tracks these and then shares them on your family WhatsApp group.
Does health insurance cover stroke rehabilitation in India?
It depends on your policy. Some policies cover part of rehabilitation costs. Therefore, ask your insurer whether they cover residential recovery care.
